Sound would not come out even after reinstalling driver. Internet also would show disable at the icon at lower bar to the right eventhough it is connected and navigating.

Hello ;)
Has anyone had this issue or knows how to fix it?
Updated from windows 10 to windows 11 about a month ago. Week or two after windows update the sound stopped completely. Updated driver, reinstalled, instaled manufactory driver for sound card, tested speakers and nothing. I am not sure this has also anything to do with Windows update but it never happened before and this is an older PC. And yes cp hardware shows the sound card.
Thanks in advance for any helpful tip ;)

What motherboard or laptop are you using? (And if it's not built-in, then what sound card?)

Hmm. I didn't delete anything. I was wondering why you hadn't replied.

The Foxconn 2ADA appears to be an OEM motherboard. What computer is it? Maybe an HP model?

I'm not really seeing any info online regarding Windows 11 sound on the HP Envy 700-030 or the Foxconn 2ADA specifically, only general troubleshooting steps like updating/installing drivers (which it sounds like you've already done).

I'm not sure exactly what you meant by "Week or two after windows update." Do you mean a week or two after doing the Windows 11 upgrade, or do you mean after installing other general Windows updates after already being on Windows 11? If it's the former, I wouldn't have any suggestions, because tech isn't magic and something must've changed when the speakers stopped working, but I'd have no clue what from this side of the internet. If it's the latter (which it could be even if it was something Windows 11 did automatically), I'd suggest trying to narrow down which specific update broke the sound.

In the Windows Update history, is there an option to uninstall any updates from around the time the sound stopped working?

If you want to validate that it's a Windows 11 issue and not some freak issue with your hardware, you could boot from a live Linux USB (e.g. Ubuntu or Pop!_OS) and check that the speakers work there, without actually installing Linux.

thank you for the reply
ok, will try to narrow down and find out which date and what was done as far as update.
Yes I refered to 2 weeks after updating from w10 to w11 when the issue started, but since it is my wife desktop I don't know exact what was done before that happened

in worst case sccenario and considering it is windows update to W11 fault, can I just reverse back to W10 and that should be brought back to previous working status?

If you're presented with an option to roll back to Windows 10 on the Windows Update screen, then it's possible. However, there's a time limit on how long Windows shows that option. A web search suggests it might be 10 days, which means it would've already passed.

If a clean install of Windows 10 would be a pain and you're not keen on having your wife try Linux, and you're not able to figure out how to get it working on Windows 11 (which I'd think there'd be a way to get it working), then yet another option would be to pick up a cheap USB sound card. If it's anything driver-related to do with the computer being old, a USB sound card should bypass all of that. There are many in the range of $20, some under $10.

great tip about the sound card ! I will try that. She does't care much about the way, all she needs is to listen to her audios while working and to attend the online meetings.
Thanks a lot ;)
