I sat down and did the steps five different times. Mariadb would not load for me. Not sure of the reason but I kinda gave up after the 6 try. I will try again another day.
Hi, Bstone! What do you mean when you say MariaDB would "not load?" Does it install via apt? Can you get into the CLI with the "mariadb" command?
During the setup after installing MariaDB. When the step comes to run MariaDB to setup the database. I get a message that Maria Is not installed. I have been working and have not had time to play around with it. I will have sometime this weekend to give some more detail and post in the forum.
Hmm. Assuming you know Linux commands are case-sensitive, so it has to be "mariadb" and not "Mariadb" or anything like that, you could also try running "mysql" instead. I believe MariaDB includes a symlink to itself as a sort of compatibility layer for programs that call MySQL.
I did it step for step with the video, I think about 6 times each but when I got to that point it did not work. I think i may have had the wrong verison of ubuntu so I am going to see if that was the problem. But when I tried to do the wordpress video mariadb did work. But i could not get wordpress to load. So, I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I am going to try it again today and see what happens.
I see that you're in the Discord, if you're still having problems then you should hop in there and post some screenshots so I can help!
ok, I found out what I was doing wrong. I was running 16.4 and not 19.4. Pretty much on 16.4 the server would not start when i typed mariadb.
Ah, glad you got it figured out. From a quick web search, it does look like typing "mysql" instead of "mariadb" like I said should have worked on 16.04– MariaDB was very new at that point, so they put their files in the same location as MySQL to allow for the easiest transition over. Nowadays, either works.

Let me know if you have any other issues/questions!
